Choosing the Right CTP Plate for High-Humidity Climates in West Africa
By Technical Team, AfroMega Supplies
12 min read
West Africa’s humidity (often 70–90% RH) creates unique challenges for CTP plates. Standard plates can suffer from coating degradation, dot gain issues, and shortened run lengths if not properly specified.
Key Recommendations
- Thermal plates (Kodak Electra, Agfa Azura) generally outperform violet plates in high humidity due to better coating stability.
- Look for plates with enhanced anti-humidity coatings or those rated for tropical climates.
- Store plates in climate-controlled conditions (ideally 18–24°C, <60% RH) — we maintain this in both Accra and Lomé warehouses.
- Developer choice matters: Use the manufacturer-recommended developer and change it at the correct intervals.
Our Top Performing Plates in Ghana & Togo
Based on field feedback from print shops across the region, these consistently deliver strong results:
- Kodak Electra CTP Thermal (0.15mm and 0.20mm)
- Agfa Azura with humidity-resistant coating
- Our own AfroMega Pro Thermal line (excellent price/performance for mid-volume shops)
